“An ambigram is a typographical design or artform that may be read as one or more words not only in its form as presented, but also from another viewpoint, direction, or orientation”

I started making ambigrams about 4 years ago when after my schooling I read so many novels during the empty time. One of them was “Angels And Demons” by celebrated Dan Brown which in my view remains the biggest publicity of the art form. And so started my pursuit of ambigrams.

30-40 pages into the book, I was awestruck by the ILLUMINATTI piece and strongly felt like making one myself. I tried “utm” first coz it was the easiest word that i could think of, self obsessed as I always am…I did it….

But that wasn’t enough. Because I was not yet able to make “Uttam”. I was at the brink of giving up when the design struck me complete with all the curves.

This one over here is a version of the original that later came up after much refining. Recently, I painted the same on the wall of my hostel room though it finally turned out to be a pathetic reproduction of what was intended. I am not gonna put it up as of now. May be later on…

Anyways, Let’s continue with the story…

On the very same day I made 3 more ambigrams – “Ekta”, “Bharat”, “Salma”, Some of my best friends.

I was too happy. I had produced a piece of art after quite a while. At that time it had been years since I had quit pencil sketching. So it was quite a feeling. But what I didn’t know then was that there would be many more ambigrams to make and so many great friends to meet who would pick this up and make it all the more fun with their skill, innovation and enthusiasm…
